Light Fairytale Prologue Bundle: A Love Letter to RPG Fans With A Wonderful Anime Sensibility

Released recently for the Xbox One, Light Fairytale Prologue Bundle includes two standalone games (a.k.a. episodes).

Inspired by classics such as Final Fantasy 7, in Light Fairytale, episode 1, your journey starts in a dystopian world. Interaction with the universe is encouraged and there are some very engaging interactions with the non-playable characters (NPC's) that do a fantastic job of fleshing out the richness of the environment. The game center around the characters Haru and Kuroko. Despite the general dystopian feel of the universe, there is tremendous vitality and humanity depicted within a fair number of the characters. This helps to make one feel vested within the game world.

The music and songs are gorgeous and do a great job of making one feel vested in the world of Light Fairytale. The opening song, Someday To The Blue Sky, is both energetic and beautiful. Terry Chandler's music and lyrics are beautiful and inspired.

Of course as this is an RPG, there are battles; specifically, turn-based battles. However, the player is first given a fair chance to explore and learn about the basic story before needing to head out to battle. This helps one feel more vested in the battles because one is actively participating in helping to shape the world that the game takes place in. For example, in many cases there is a story element tied to battles; because of this, the turn-based battles are finite. You can build your levels but you cannot grind, or continuously enter battles to level up excessively. Personally, I really liked this as it ensured that the challenge was always fair while keeping one on one's toes.

Since these games play out like episodes, the second game continues directly after the events of the first. Giving away too much of the story would only rob you of the intrigue, so I will not go into too much specific detail. The second game branches out from the dystopian city and explores the Deeplands, a tundra-like universe. As the adventure continues, new party members are added.

It will be very exciting to see future episodes of the series. Review code provided by neko.works
